Message to My Neighborhood

Connect

April 15, 2020

One of my favourite parts of the week at the moment is 8pm on Thursdays – as we go outside our door to clap and cheer for our NHS heroes with those in our street, our town, and the rest of the country, I feel so proud of those family members and friends who are serving us in the NHS, and so very grateful.

I also love this moment each week to see our neighbours and to call across the road to each other, to feel more connected with those nearby. The rainbows in windows are part of this too – looking out from our homes and finding ways to cheer each other up and cheer each other on. On a FaceTime last week, my niece was showing me the other posters she and my sister had made for their windows to send out messages to their community and it got me thinking… what would I like to say to people walking past my house?

What other messages could make someone smile as they passed, or make them feel less alone? And who else could do with some appreciation as they continue to work – our postman, the bin men, staff heading to work at the local supermarkets… Maybe we could use our windows (or driveways/pathways) to say a thank you, tell a ‘joke of the week’, or share an inspirational quote. I’d love to hear your ideas and see what encouragements you’re sending to your neighbourhood!
